Description
Castle Mews is a hidden gem of a cottage, at the end of a short row of cottages tucked away down a gated passageway, right in the heart of the lovely market town of Cirencester. In Roman times Cirencester was known as “Corinium”, when it was the second largest town in Britain, a history that is celebrated in its local museum. Nowadays, Cirencester is the largest town in the Cotswolds, enabling it to support a wide range of pubs, restaurants and shops, all housed in beautiful honey-coloured Cotswold stone buildings. The town is surrounded by stunning countryside and beautiful Cotswold villages, as well as being an ideal base for visiting further afield places, such as Bath, Oxford or even a day trip into London.
This traditional half-timbered cottage has many character features, including oak beams, ledge and brace doors, and exposed wall timbers. The character of the cottage is complemented by its modern facilities, including wireless internet access, a small flatscreen TV and a well presented kitchen.
Castle Mews sleeps a maximum of two people, in one bedroom, with a lovely bathroom, and there are courtyard gardens to both the front and the rear of the property. Car parking is available in either on-street metered parking bays, or a number of nearby car parks. This beautiful cottage is perfect for a couple looking for a relaxing break in the heart of one of England’s nicest market towns.
Description
Castle Mews is very peacefully located, down a gated passageway off Castle street, a beautiful street in the heart of Cirencester. There is a lovely enclosed courtyard garden at the front of the cottage, which leads to the front door. The door opens into the open plan ground floor:
- Living/dining area: The relaxing living and dining space contains a comfy sofa, an armchair and a wooden dining table, with seating for two. Discretely hidden away in a wooden cabinet is a small SMART TV and DVD player;
- Kitchen area: The lovely kitchen area is very well laid out and contains a two ring induction hob, electric oven, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster and a washing machine/tumble dryer.
Stairs lead up from the living area to the first floor landing, off which are the following rooms:
- Bedroom: A lovely eaves room, with oak beams and a ledge and brace door, which contains a king size bed;
- Dressing room: A nice additional space, which contains a sofa, a dressing table and a free standing towel rail;
- Bathroom: Contains a bath with overhead shower, toilet, wash basin and heated towel rail.
Returning downstairs, a stable door leads out from the kitchen area to a small, enclosed courtyard garden at the back of the cottage, which contains a table and two seats. The garden area at the front of the cottage is larger and is a beautiful place to sit outside and relax, containing two comfy chairs and a small table.

The cottage itself is roomy and well decorated. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking from home and all in new condition too. The WiFi didn’t glitch once and the cottage also has a TV. The cottage is very well located in the centre of town and is a couple of minutes walk from numerous restaurants, pubs and cafes as well as local tourist attractions. This is a perfect location from which to explore Cirencester. Despite being central however the cottage is set back from the road and the gated access means that it is very quiet. -"A beautiful and stylish cottage, great facilities and spotless! A perfect location for our family, so quick to pop to the shops or have a lovely walk. Would highly recommend.", Aimee and Martin, June 2018
-"Fantastic, centrally located character cottage. We must make mention of how beautifully clean the cottage was, the cleaner should be congratulated.", Clive, June 2018
-"We really enjoyed our stay at 1 Castle Mews in Cirencester. The Cottage is located in the heart of old town but back off the main street in a lovely garden. So, even though it was very centrally located in town, it was also very quiet. We loved that it was just up the street from a fantastic coffee shop, Coffee #1, and very close to inexpensive city parking. This was a fantastic home base to explore the Cotswolds and we would highly recommend it as there are a huge number of great restaurants in Cirencester; something you won’t find in the little villages. The cottage itself is amazing. It have an old cottage feel with exposed beams and cozy furnishings, but all the amenities such as the cooking facilities and bathroom are very modern and up to date. You get the best of both worlds! We loved the the cottage guide was exhaustive both on the cottage itself and as a guide to the city and surrounding area. We used the directory of walking routes to explore the amazing city park just down the street from the cottage. This was, literally, the perfect weekend for my fiancée and I. We’d definitely consider staying again.", Joshua, April 2018
-"Castle Mews was perfectly located for a Cotswold adventure. The cottage was quaint and just what we needed. Highly recommended.", Brad, April 2018
-"This is an absolutely charming cottage that’s well equipped for cooking and very accessible. We stayed at Castle Mews for 4 days and found the place easy to get to by train and surrounded by lots of amenities/walks. Hope to come back again at some point!”, Sophia, April 2018
-"The cottage was perfectly kitted out and very warm which was great in the cold weather. The welcome wine and biscuits were also a lovely treat. Highly recommend for a short break - great location in the centre of town to explore and visit restaurants and pubs.", Millie, March 2018
-"This cottage in the heart of Cirencester is ideal for a long weekend stay but we could happily have stayed for longer. It was so lovely to be greeted to a clean, cosy cottage after a long journey. The bottle of Malbec and luxury biscuits were thoughtful and very welcome too. As we didn't have a car, the location was perfect as everything you need and want to see is within walking distance. This place gave us great value for money - the decor inside and out is tasteful and fits in well with what you'd expect from a cottage in the Cotswolds. It was useful to pick up the keys from a safe using the code instead of having to make our host come out and wait for us, given the unreliability of Great Western Railway! Would 100% stay here again when returning to Cirencester. And would recommend coming at this time of year as the Advent market, light switch-on and carol service made it that more magical. Thanks Character Cottages!”, Emily, December 2017
-"Great little house right in the center of Cirencester in a quiet mews. Very clean and well equipped.", Nikolas, October 2017

-“Absolutely superb in every way, amenities, location, ambiance.”, Mike, July 2017
-“Great location and décor. Clean & very comfortable.”, Jacqueline, June 2017
-“Very well located comfortable apartment in a fantastic town in the Cotswolds. It was perfect.”, Thomas, May 2017
