Summary
Dove Cottage is a beautiful, traditional Cotswold stone property, located in the picturesque village of Naunton. The village is very popular, being set away from busy roads and benefitting from a good village pub, golf course and many walks straight from the doorstep. The well known market town of Stow-on-the-Wold and the beautiful village of Bourton-on-the-Water are both within six miles, with their wide range of pubs, shops and restaurants. Naunton is also ideally located for exploring the wider Cotswolds region and beyond, including famous places such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford and Blenheim Palace.
This lovely cottage has many character features, including oak beams, a stone fireplace with a wood burning stove, and solid wooden doors. The traditional character is complemented by modern facilities, including a Smart TV, fast wireless internet access and a well presented kitchen.
Dove Cottage sleeps a maximum of four people plus one infant in a cot, in two bedrooms, with one bathroom. There is a lovely patio area at the front of the property, together with a parking space for one car. The property is the perfect place for couples, families or small groups of friends seeking an idyllic rural retreat in the heart of the Cotswold countryside.
Description
Dove Cottage’s front door opens into the living room. The open plan downstairs contains the following rooms:
- Living room: Full of character, this room contains exposed beams and a stone fireplace with a wood burning stove. There is a two seater sofa, two armchairs, and a Smart TV with a Blu-ray/DVD/CD player;
- Kitchen/dining room: Accessed directly from the living room, this well presented room contains a double electric oven, four ring ceramic hob, dishwasher, fridge, small freezer, microwave, toaster and kettle. There is also a stylish glass dining table, which comfortably seats four.
Stairs lead up from the living room to the small first floor landing, off which are the following rooms:
- Bedroom 1: A lovely room with attractive rural views, which contains a double bed;
- Family bathroom: Contains a bath with handheld shower attachment, heated towel rail, wash basin and toilet. There is also a washing machine in the bathroom;
A door on the first floor landing leads to a second, steep stairway to the second floor bedroom:
- Bedroom 2: A lovely eaves room, which can be set up as either two single beds or a king size bed.
Directly outside the front of the cottage is a lovely, peaceful patio area, which contains a table, four chairs and a charcoal barbecue. There is also a small garden, together with a gravelled parking area, with space for one average sized car.

Booking and payment
Character Cottages is a marketing agency and we do not own any of the cottages listed on our website. We manage a proportion of cottages within our portfolio and the remaining properties are managed by a third party property manager or the property owner – your pre-arrival email will contain confirmation and contact details for your property manager. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.
For bookings commencing more than 10 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 10 weeks prior to arrival.
All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.
Security deposits
Security deposits are not required (please note that guests are still liable for any damage or additional cleaning required as a result of their actions).
Occupancy
The maximum occupancy of the property is four guests, at any point during your stay. Unauthorised over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges. Please consult us prior to booking if you wish to discuss the possibility of having more than four guests at the property.
Infants who sleep in a cot do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions, the occupancy figure may only be exceeded by one additional infant.
Pets
One medium sized dog is accepted, at a cost of £20 per booking. We do ask you to ensure that dogs never stray into the neighbouring properties - please note that there is no boundary fence to the garden and that Naunton village has a strict policy that dogs must be kept on leads everywhere when out walking, including on the village recreation field and footpaths.
For the comfort of future guests, we ask that dogs remain downstairs, stay off the furniture and that no trace of a dog remains after your departure. We also ask that dogs are never left alone in the property.
Bed linen and towels
Bed linen and towels are provided for guests.
Arrival and departure times
Arrival time is after 4pm and departure time is by 10am. Access is via a key safe, therefore it does not matter if you are arriving late at night.

Bathrooms
- Family bathroom: Bath with handheld shower attachment, wash basin and toilet
Heating, fuel and logs
The property has an electric central heating system and electricity is included in the rental price.
An initial basket of logs is provided for the wood burning stove and further log supplies can be obtained from the log store.
Services provided
The property has free fast wireless internet access and a Smart TV with a Blu-Ray/DVD/CD player. For the sake of our neighbours, we ask you please to avoid loud music late in the evenings.
There is no telephone at the property.
Mobile phone reception is generally OK.
Parking
The property has a private parking area for one average sized car. Additional quiet street parking is available close to the property.
Housekeeping
Where a letting exceeds nine nights, a mid-stay clean, bed linen and towel change may be included in the price. Please check with us to confirm. Additional housekeeping services may be available on request.
Child friendly facilities
A travel cot (without linen) and a safety gate are provided. A highchair is available upon request.
Initial consumables
A small quantity of initial consumables is provided for your convenience (eg. tea, coffee, sugar, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, soap, washing powder, toilet rolls, etc), however, you should not expect the quantity of these provisions to be sufficient for the duration of your stay.
Accessibility, health and safety
This property has many character features, including several steps leading up to the front door, narrow and steep stairs, some very low beams, and sloping ceilings, which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility, or carrying babies, both in terms of their general movement and their ability to quickly exit the house in the event of an emergency.
The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis and, therefore, those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk.
Smoking
No smoking or vaping is permitted throughout the property.
Candles/nightlights
No candles or nightlights are permitted inside the cottage.

Dove Cottage is located in the quiet village of Naunton, within 6 miles of the popular market towns of Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold.
Travelling by car
Naunton is easily accessed by car, being located approximately 4 miles away from the A429 (Fosse Way) and approximately 6 miles away from the A40, which are two of the main roads running through the North Cotswolds.
Travelling by train
The nearest railway station to Naunton is Kingham (approximately 10 miles away), which has regular, direct services to London Paddington, with a typical journey time of less than 90 minutes. There is no taxi rank at Kingham station, so it is worth pre-booking a taxi, if required.
Travelling by plane
Naunton is within easy reach of a number of international airports:
- Birmingham International Airport: 50 miles, approximately 70 minute drive;
- Heathrow International Airport: 78 miles, approximately 100 minute drive;
- Bristol International Airport: 60 miles, approximately 80 minute drive
