Summary
Foxglove Cottage is one of a row of traditional Cotswold stone cottage, built to house the weavers who worked in the many silk mills of the beautiful village of Blockley. The historic village is very peaceful and picturesque, yet benefits from having two pubs and a community owned village shop & café, as well as a historic Norman church in the centre of the village. Numerous beautiful country walks are accessible directly from the cottage and Blockley is well located for visiting the many beautiful towns and villages of the Cotswolds.
The cottage has many traditional character features, including exposed Cotswold stone walls, wooden beams and floors, and a wood burning stove. The character of the cottage is complemented by its lovely furnishings and its modern facilities, including wireless internet access, a SMART TV and a well presented kitchen.
Foxglove Cottage sleeps a maximum of four people, in two bedrooms, with a family bathroom. There is a lovely enclosed garden to the rear of the property and free on street parking is readily available. Foxglove Cottage is an ideal retreat for friends, couples or a small family, looking for a peaceful getaway in a beautiful village.
Description
The front door of Foxglove Cottage is accessed directly from the quiet road that the cottage sits on and opens directly into the living room. The ground floor is open plan, containing:
- Living room/dining area: This characterful room contains a feature Cotswold stone wall, oak beams and a lovely wood burning stove in a Cotswold stone fireplace. There is comfy seating for four, as well as a dining table with seating for four;
- Kitchen area: The well laid out kitchen contains an electric oven, four ring gas hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, and a toaster with a croissant warming facility.
Stairs lead up from the ground floor to the first floor landing, off which are the following rooms:
- Bedroom 2: With lovely views over fields, this room contains a double bed;
- Family bathroom: At the back of the cottage, also with lovely views of the countryside, the bathroom contains a bath with overhead shower, toilet and wash basin. There is also a washing machine in the bathroom.
Further stairs then lead up to the second floor:
- Master bedroom: A beautiful eaves room, with windows on both sides of the cottage, this large room contains a double bed and a lounge area, with two comfy seats and a table, from which to admire the lovely views of Blockley Valley.
Foxglove Cottage's enclosed garden is at the rear of the property, accessed from the kitchen. The garden has a patio area and a further lawned area, and contains a table and four chairs, as well as a bench. A cast iron fire pit is also provided. Please note that there is a walkway behind the cottages, that provides individual garden access to cottage owners only.
Key Features
Booking and payment
Character Cottages is a marketing agency and we do not own any of the cottages listed on our website. We manage a proportion of cottages within our portfolio and the remaining properties are managed by a third party property manager or the property owner – your pre-arrival email will contain confirmation and contact details for your property manager. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.
For bookings commencing more than 10 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 10 weeks prior to arrival.
All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.
Security deposits
Security deposits are not required (please note that guests are still liable for any damage or additional cleaning required as a result of their actions).
Occupancy
The maximum occupancy of the property, is four guests, at any point during your stay. Unauthorised over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges. Please consult us prior to booking if you wish to discuss the possibility of having more than four guests at the property.
Infants who sleep in a cot do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions, the occupancy figure may only be exceeded by up to two additional infants.
Pets
Up to two small dogs (no larger than Cocker Spaniels, unless agreed with the owner) are accepted, at a cost of £20 per booking per dog.
For the comfort of future guests, we ask that dogs remain downstairs, stay off the furniture and that no trace of a dog remains after your departure.
Bed linen and towels
Bed linen and towels are provided for guests.
Arrival and departure times
Arrival time is after 3pm and departure time is by 10am. Access is via a key safe, therefore it does not matter if you are arriving late at night.

- Family bathroom: bath with overhead shower, toilet and wash basin
Heating, fuel and logs
The property has a gas central heating system.
Electricity and gas are included in the rental price. An initial basket of logs is provided for the wood burning stove and further log supplies can be purchased locally.
Services provided
The property has free wireless internet access and a Smart TV with a DVD player. A telephone is provided, for incoming calls and local outbound calls.
Mobile phone reception is variable, typically being better outside the cottage than inside, and better at the top of the cottage than at the bottom.
Parking
Free on-street parking is available outside the property.
Housekeeping
Where a letting exceeds nine nights, a mid-stay clean, bed linen and towel change may be included in the price. Please check with us to confirm. Additional housekeeping services may be available on request.
Child friendly facilities
Guests are welcome to bring their own travel cot and high chair, to accommodate one infant.
The property’s garden is enclosed, however, please note that there is a walkway behind the cottages, that provides individual garden access to cottage owners only.
Initial consumables
A small quantity of initial consumables is provided for your convenience (eg. tea, coffee, sugar, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, soap, washing powder, toilet rolls, etc), however, you should not expect the quantity of these provisions to be sufficient for the duration of your stay.
Accessibility, health and safety
This is an old property and has narrow and steep stairs and multiple floors, which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility, or carrying babies, both in terms of their general movement and their ability to quickly exit the house in the event of an emergency.
The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis and, therefore, those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk.
Smoking
No smoking or vaping is permitted throughout the property.

Travelling by car
Blockley is easily accessed by car, being located approximately 1 mile away from the A44 and approximately 3 miles away from the A429 (Fosse Way), which are two of the main roads through the North Cotswolds.
Travelling by train
The nearest railway station to Blockley is Moreton-in-Marsh (approximately 3 miles away), which has regular, direct services to London Paddington, with a typical journey time of approximately 90 minutes.
