Description
Summary
Gables Cottage is a beautiful, grade II listed Cotswold stone property, located in the heart of the pretty, peaceful village of Churchill and surrounded by the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Churchill is fortunate to have a lovely church and village green, as well as a well-regarded pub, and is only three miles away from Chipping Norton and seven miles away from Stow-on-the-Wold, which are two of the well known Cotswold market towns. Gables Cottage is well placed for exploring the surrounding countryside or visiting the many beautiful towns and villages of the Cotswolds, as well as other tourist destinations, such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford and Blenheim Palace.
The cottage has been beautifully preserved and retains many of its original character features, such as exposed oak beams and Cotswold stone walls, elm floorboards, spiral staircases and a large inglenook fireplace, with a wood burning stove. The character of the cottage is complemented by its modern facilities, including wireless internet access, a flatscreen TV with DVD player and full Sky package, and a well presented kitchen.
The cottage sleeps a maximum of six people, in three bedrooms, with two bathrooms. There is an enclosed garden and off-street parking for two cars, with free on street parking also readily available. Gables Cottage is an ideal location for families or groups of friends seeking a character filled property in a beautiful location.
Description
Gables Cottage is accessed via its back door, which opens into a small porch and then a larger hallway. Two ground floor rooms lead off the hallway:
- Living room: A beautiful dual-aspect room, with flagstone flooring in half the room, exposed Cotswold stone, oak beams and a large inglenook fireplace, containing a wood burning stove. There is comfy seating for six and a flatscreen TV, with a DVD player and a full Sky package;
- Kitchen/dining room: Another dual-aspect room, with oak beams and a lovely window seat. The kitchen facilities include an electric range cooker, with two ovens, four hobs and a warming section, a microwave, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and a Smeg fridge with a small freezer section. This sociable room also contains a wooden dining table and six dining chairs.
A beautiful wooden spiral staircase goes up from the hallway to the first floor landing. Please note that the staircase is steep and narrow, however, it does have a hand rail in the centre and fixed stair gates at the top and bottom. The following rooms are on the first floor:
- Master bedroom: Another beautiful dual-aspect room, with elm floorboards and oak beams, which contains a king size bed. There is also a small en-suite bathroom, containing an electric shower, toilet and wash basin;
- Bedroom 2: Again, a lovely dual-aspect room, with elm floorboards, oak beams, exposed Cotswold stone and an old inglenook fireplace. Contains a king size bed;
- Family bathroom: The large, elegant bathroom has recently been refurbished and contains a bath with overhead shower, toilet, wash basin and heated towel rail.
A door on the landing opens onto another narrow, steep spiral staircase, leading up to the second floor. Please note that there is no handrail on this staircase, or safety gate at the top. There is a small landing at the top of the stairs, which contains a particularly low beam, which must be ducked under to get into:
- Bedroom 3: A lovely room, in the eaves of the cottage, which contains two single beds and a sofa.
Gable Cottage's mature, enclosed garden is at the back of the property and is a mixture of lawn and patio areas. There is an outdoor table and plenty of seating, as well as a charcoal barbecue and children's outdoor toys. Within the garden is an outhouse, which contains a washing machine, tumble dryer and a large fridge freezer.
Outside the garden, there is off-street parking available for two cars.

In order to provide you with as much detail of our properties as possible, we sometimes use wide angle photography, which can make certain rooms, or spaces, appear larger than they actually are. Wherever possible, we try to include a floorplan, with detailed dimensions of rooms and areas. If you have any queries regarding the size of any rooms or spaces, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Other Customer Feedback:
-"A lovely cottage in a very peaceful village. The cottage was lovely and everything we needed for a relaxing break.", Caroline, November 2018
-"We had a girls weekend here to celebrate a 32nd birthday. Was the perfect place for us to completely switch off and relax whilst enjoying a break from busy lives in London. The property felt very homely and lived in, it was welcoming and cosy but still plenty of space for the 5 of us who stayed for a long weekend. The area is very peaceful and quiet which is just what we wanted! We had everything that was needed and the property managers are on hand if you need anything. Lovely, lovely experience and time, would not hesitate to go back again at any time.", Anna, October 2018
-"We had a fantastic time in Churchill and staying at Gables Cottages made it complete. Beautifully presented with plenty of space.", Susan, September 2018
-“Perfect cottage for the summer - the outside space is fabulous. Great location with a superb pub just round the corner.”, Denise, August 2018
-"We loved the Gables Cottage! Loved the staying in a very well preserved cottage with unique features (spiral staircase, wood beams, beautiful floors). The garden area is lovely - we did have a bit of rain so did not enjoy it as much as we would have liked, but did spend our first evening out there. Appreciated the cleanliness of the cottage and the delicious chocolate cake that was left for us.", Janet, August 2018
- "A beautiful cottage set in one of the prettiest villages in the Cotswolds! Everything we needed and more. Thank you.”, Lara, February 2018
- "Beautiful and cute cottage. The whole family loved the cottage. It had everything we needed, was very comfortable and cosy. We had a perfect, relaxing family weekend and were sad when it was time to go home. The local pub was lovely and we all agreed that the food and service there was great. The Sunday Roast is a must try. We will definitely be back to stay again and have recommended to our friends.", Julia, October 2017
- "Had a lovely family weekend to attend a wedding at nearby Merriscourt. My grandson loved all the toys, especially the ride on car and tractor he was able to use outside. We had a family brunch gathering prior to the wedding when 6 other family members joined us, and the weather was good enough to sit outside in a sun trap at the side of the garden. A wonderful family weekend.", Wendy, September 2017
- "Lovely cottage, lots of character. We had a great time at Gables Cottage. Lovely well equipped house with great garden." Tom Cooper, May 2017
- "We absolutely LOVED staying at Gables Cottage - such a delight. The garden is an absolute treat as well. Will definitely return as soon as we can!", Ali, May 2017
- "Gables Cottage is the perfect place to stay for a relaxing break in the Cotswolds. The village of Churchill is beautiful with a fantastic pub and lots of beautiful walks. The cottage itself is comfy and cosy with real character from the gorgeous exposed beams, wooden floor boards and the amazing fire place in the living room. The hosts had thought of everything, there's a great file which highlights activities near to the cottage and slightly further afield. They had also left a rather yummy cake for us on arrival. The garden is also great with a BBQ and a selection of toys for little ones which went down very well!! Overall I couldn't recommend Gables Cottage enough and I will definitely be back." Sophie, April 2017
- “Lovely and Cosy cottage, perfect for group of friends or family. So easy to book. Very impressed.”, Kate, February 2017
- "Accommodation excellent, cosy and very clean and comfortable. Small gripe - the slow internet download speed meant I was unable to download my digital copy of the Telegraph each morning, which I missed! However, I am aware the internet speeds in some country areas can be quite slow and this is probably an issue for BT to sort but the owner may wish to be aware." Andrew Tranham, November 2016
- "Fantastic property, very well maintained and beautifully decorated cottage. Just what we were looking for!" Karen, September 2016
