Location
Peacefully situated in the centre of the picturesque village of Naunton, Hillside is surrounded by the stunning countryside which falls within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This pretty village benefits from having a well-regarded pub, a challenging yet enjoyable golf course and a recreational park complete with children’s play area. The gallops of Grange Hill Farm overlook the valley below and horse racing enthusiasts will be able to see trainers from the renowned yard of Nigel Twiston-Davies exercising their top-class racehorses.
Naunton is well-placed for visiting the many picture-postcard towns and villages of the North Cotswolds including Stow-on-the-Wold, Winchcombe and Bourton-on-the-Water, all home to a variety of independent shops, tearooms, pubs and restaurants. Many pleasant footpaths pass through Naunton including the Wardens’ Way which heads into the neighbouring village of Guiting Power, just two miles away. Though a sleepy village, it benefits from two popular pubs, a bakery and a tearoom, and just a short drive away is Adam Henson’s Cotswold Farm Park, a fun day out for all the family. Slightly further afield is Temple Guiting with the Temple Guiting Pantry, a true Cotswold gem which serves delicious food daily and has a lifestyle shop next door with products ranging from homewares to jewellery and wine. Naunton is also within easy reach of many tourist destinations such as Oxford, Blenheim Palace and Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare.

Key Features
Booking and payment
Character Cottages is a marketing agency and we do not own any of the cottages listed on our website. We manage a proportion of cottages within our portfolio and the remaining properties are managed by a third party property manager or the property owner – your pre-arrival email will contain confirmation and contact details for your property manager. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.
For bookings commencing more than 10 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 10 weeks prior to arrival.
All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.
Security deposits
A security deposit of £200 is payable, which is returned after the letting period, subject to an inspection of the property. For the avoidance of doubt, guests are requested to leave the property in a reasonable condition, consistent with the property's appearance upon arrival. In the event that the owners, or their appointed housekeepers, have to spend additional time tidying up after your departure, then the cost of this extra time may be deducted from your security deposit. The security deposit is payable prior to arrival at the property, via a bank transfer or a valid debit or credit card.
Occupancy
The maximum occupancy of the property, including its grounds, is 10+2 guests (with the +2 option being a double sofa bed in the snug), at any point during your stay. Hillside is a family home in a tranquil, rural setting, and in order to respect the peaceful way of village life, adult only groups are limited to a maximum of eight. Unauthorised over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges. Please consult us prior to booking if you wish to discuss the possibility of having more than 12 guests at the property.
Infants who sleep in a cot do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions, the occupancy figure may only be exceeded by up to four additional infants.
Pets
Up to two medium sized dogs (no larger than Labradors, unless agreed with the owner) are accepted, at a cost of £20 per booking per dog.
For the comfort of future guests, we ask that dogs remain downstairs, stay off the furniture and that no trace of a dog remains after your departure.
Bed linen and towels
Bed linen and towels are provided for guests.
Arrival and departure times
Arrival time is after 5pm and departure time is by 10am. Access is via a key safe, therefore it does not matter if you are arriving late at night.

Initial consumables
A small quantity of initial consumables is provided for your convenience (eg. tea, coffee, sugar, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, soap, washing powder, toilet rolls, etc), however, you should not expect the quantity of these provisions to be sufficient for the duration of your stay.
Accessibility, health and safety
The bedrooms in the eaves have some sloping ceilings which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility, or carrying babies, both in terms of their general movement and their ability to quickly exit the house in the event of an emergency.
The property’s large lawn is on a slope and so young children should be supervised outside at all times. In addition to this, the owner has politely requested that children do not climb on the dry-stone walls for their own safety.
The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis and, therefore, those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk.
Smoking
No smoking or vaping is permitted throughout the property.
Hen, Stag and other same sex groups
Unfortunately, Hen, Stag and other same sex groups are not allowed at Hillside.
If you would like to enquire as part of a same sex group, please contact us, as these may be accepted at the sole discretion of the property owner. Please note that same sex family groups are welcome.
Other
Hillside has a lovely garden for guests to enjoy and it is important to the owners that guests are courteous and considerate towards the neighbouring properties. We politely request that guests do not disturb the neighbours and that loud music is not played outside after 9pm.
The garden is maintained by a professional gardening service every Wednesday. This work will be completed as quickly as possible and with as little disturbance as possible to guests.
Photographs
In order to provide you with as much detail of our properties as possible, we sometimes use wide angle photography, which can make certain rooms, or spaces, appear larger than they actually are. Wherever possible, we try to include a floorplan, with detailed dimensions of rooms and areas.
If you have any queries regarding the size of any rooms or spaces, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Other Guest Feedback:
-"Hillside cottage was everything we were hoping for for our week away. We were a group of 11, grandparents, parents and kids aged 5-11. It is safe to say that no one wanted to leave and we could have easily all stayed another week. The house is very well maintained and in a great location. There is a lovely park with a huge field 3 mins walk away and we spent most mornings there walking the dog and admiring the views. The kitchen is a great size for everyone to gather. The showers are powerful and there is always hot water, no matter how many people there are having a shower at the same time. Only minor disappointment was the size of the garden. The grassed area is limited, but with such a huge field nearby this was easily forgotten. I am already planning my next visit to the Cotswolds!", Evita, August 2020
-"Great family place to stay if you have a big family. Ideal location!", Aashish, July 2020
-"One of the best most well equipped house we have ever stayed in.", Sue, March 2020
-"Exceptional property, spotlessly clean, spacious, beautiful, warm, well equipped, stayed 4 nights and loved it. Perfect for a large family gathering, including dog! Little things like the towels being luxurious were appreciated. Enjoyed the location - a great local pub (dog friendly too!) and local walks. Nearby Bourton on the Water had loads for all of us to do, we had to go twice :). Generous welcome items went down a treat too, even the dog was well looked after! All in all would highly recommend.", Karen, February 2020
-“Very nice well presented property ideal for our family weekend, many thanks for the lovely welcome gifts.”, John, February 2020
-“A beautifully appointed cottage with modern equipment and plenty of space for a group of 8 of us. The owners kindly provided a welcome hamper including wine, bread and biscuits as well as tea, coffee, sugar, milk and eggs. The location was fantastic and close to walks as well as activities such as clay pigeon shooting. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property”, Nikesh, February 2020
-"An excellent top quality home, with all modern comfort and quality equipment. We had an excellent stay there. Naunton is a quiet but beautiful village, right in the middle of the Cotswolds.",Tim, January 2020
