Description
Summary
Red Lion Cottage is a stunning Cotswold stone cottage, which is believed to date back to c.1750, and is located on a peaceful country lane, on the edge of the picturesque village of Blockley. The beautiful surrounding Cotswold countryside is visible from the cottage, and many lovely walks are accessible directly from the front door. Once famous for its many silk mills, Blockley is located well away from busy roads and tourist routes, yet still benefits from having two pubs and a community owned village shop & café, as well as a historic Norman church. The village is also close to the popular Cotswold market towns of Moreton-in-Marsh, Chipping Camden and Stow-on-the-Wold, as well as being well placed for trips to popular tourist destinations, such as Blenheim Palace, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Oxford.
Recently refurbished to a high standard, the owners of this grade II listed cottage have combined a warm, contemporary style with the original character features, including exposed beams, limestone flooring and a stunning inglenook fireplace with a wood burning stove. The character and style of the cottage have been complemented by modern facilities, including wireless internet access, a Smart TV and a well presented kitchen.
Red Lion Cottage sleeps four people, in two bedrooms, with two bathrooms. There is a small garden terrace, which is perfect for catching the sun, and has glorious views of the surrounding countryside. The cottage is perfect for a family, or friends, seeking a relaxing break in the heart of the Cotswold countryside.
Description
Sitting on a raised pavement, Red Lion Cottage is one of a short row of cottages, on a quiet no through lane in the picturesque village of Blockley.
The front door opens directly into the main living area, with the following rooms on the ground floor:
- Living/dining room: The spacious living room is bright and airy, with lovely character features, including oak beams, a window seat, and a large, Cotswold stone inglenook fireplace with a wood burning stove. The room contains two comfortable two-seater sofas, an arm chair, and a Cuban mahogany dining table that can comfortably seat four. There is also a Smart TV, with a DVD player;
- Kitchen: Two steps lead up from the living room to the well presented kitchen, which contains an electric oven with a four-ring gas hob, an integrated fridge/freezer, dishwasher, toaster and kettle;
- Shower room: A door from the kitchen leads into a large shower room, which has a beautiful limestone floor and is decorated with Orla Kiely wallpaper. There is a walk-in shower, heated towel rail, wash basin and toilet.
Steep, winding stairs lead up from the living room to the first floor landing, off which are the following rooms:
- Master bedroom: A stylish room, with a window seat, which looks out over beautiful countryside. The room contains a wrought iron double bed and large built-in wardrobes;
- Bedroom 2: Another lovely room, also with a wooden window seat that provides stunning views of the surrounding Blockley Valley. This room contains a double bed and a chest of drawers;
- Family bathroom: Contains a Victorian style slipper bath, heated towel rail, wash basin and toilet.
Stone steps lead up from the kitchen to a small, south-west facing garden terrace, which is a lovely suntrap in the warmer months of the year. The terrace has raised borders, and a gravelled seating area, with a table and four chairs.
Quiet, on street parking is freely available on the no through road that the cottage sits on.

Security deposits
A security deposit of £150 is payable, which is returned after the letting period, subject to an inspection of the property. For the avoidance of doubt, guests are requested to leave the property in a reasonable condition, consistent with the property's appearance upon arrival. In the event that the owners, or their appointed housekeepers, have to spend additional time tidying up after your departure, then the cost of this extra time may be deducted from your security deposit. The security deposit is payable prior to arrival at the property, via a bank transfer or a valid debit or credit card.
Occupancy
The maximum occupancy of the property is four guests, at any point during your stay. Unauthorised over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges. Please consult us prior to booking if you wish to discuss the possibility of having more than four guests at the property.
Pets
Regrettably, pets are not accepted.

Accessibility, health and safety
This is an old, Grade II listed property, laid out over two floors, which has many character features, including very steep and narrow stairs, and low beams, which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility, both in terms of their general movement and their ability to quickly exit the cottage in the event of an emergency.
The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis and, therefore, those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk.
Candles are not permitted at the property, due to the fire hazard they present.
Smoking
No smoking or vaping is permitted throughout the property.
Photographs
In order to provide you with as much detail of our properties as possible, we sometimes use wide angle photography, which can make certain rooms, or spaces, appear larger than they actually are. Wherever possible, we try to include a floorplan, with detailed dimensions of rooms and areas.

-"We stayed at the red lion for a week. The cottage is in a good location, is quiet & very cosy. Little touches of having dish washer tablets, milk, logs for the fire & toilet roll was all very appreciated & a lovely touch. The cottage is in close driving distance to other villages of Broadway which is a must, Stow on Wold etc The village cafe & pub are in nice walking distance, and for us coming from London found the peace & quiet so relaxing. The cottage is well decorated, very quaint, and all though it was really cold was lovely & warm. The village is lovely to walk around. I would recommend anyone to stay here.", Tierney, January 2019
-"The Red Lion Cottage is a beautiful home, warm and welcoming, generously furbished and equipped, spotless. An amazingly comfortable bed, with lovely high quality bedding. It happened that another booking in another location could not materialise, and, thanks to Amelia's diligence, The Red Lion was suggested instead and its booking very efficiently organised. We were, and we are extremely happy for this unplanned change. We would gladly plan to stay again and longer in this cozy cottage, which we discovered by chance. Blockley too is an delightful historical village, where basically everything you need is less than a mile away.", Amanda, January 2019
