Description
Summary
Stonewell Cottage is a beautifully presented 19th century barn conversion which sleeps four guests, in two elegantly furnished bedrooms, with two bathrooms. This charming Cotswold stone property has a number of stunning character features including exposed beams, exposed Cotswold stone walls, a cosy wood burning stove and a glass covered stone well after which the property is named. These features have been complemented by modern facilities such as wireless internet access, two Freeview TVs and a well-equipped kitchen. At the front of the property there is a pretty patio area which offers breathtaking rural views, and off-street parking for up to two cars is available on the gravel driveway.
Location
Stonewell Cottage is tucked away in Maugersbury, a peaceful hamlet located almost 200ft above the valley bottom below and surrounded by glorious countryside. There are numerous walks and cycle routes on its doorstep, many of which pass through the much loved market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, just half a mile from the cottage. Stow is home to a number of independent shops, tearooms, country inns and restaurants, and the town has preserved many of its notable historic features including the bustling market square and the ‘tures’, narrow alleyways which were once used to channel the many sheep to market.
Maugersbury is well-placed for exploring the many picturesque towns and villages of the North Cotswolds such as Moreton-in-Marsh, Winchcombe, Chipping Campden, Broadway and Bourton-on-the-Water, all benefitting from well-regarded pubs, restaurants and tourist attractions. Further afield destinations such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford and Blenheim Palace are also within easy reach for day trips.

Stow Horse Fair
The Stow Horse Fair is held twice a year, on the Thursday closest to 12th May and the Thursday closest to 24th October. This is a traditional fair for gypsies and travelling people to meet up and trade which dates back to 1476 when its Charter was granted. Stow is very busy for a day or two before and after each fair, and a number of shops, pubs and restaurants are closed. Whilst many visitors enjoy the colour and vibrancy associated with the fairs, other visitors prefer to avoid Stow on these dates.

In order to provide you with as much detail of our properties as possible, we sometimes use wide angle photography, which can make certain rooms, or spaces, appear larger than they actually are. Wherever possible, we try to include a floorplan, with detailed dimensions of rooms and areas.

-"We stayed in Stonewell for the full week and the weather wasn’t great, particularly at the beginning. The meant that we spent a lot of time in the cottage. Four adults and a toddler. We found it to be very spacious, comfortable and really well equipped. Nearly forgot to add we had 2 dogs also and not once did we feel cramped. The nearby traffic free tarmac lane is a real plus for dog owners. We wouldn’t hesitate to return in the future.", David, February 2020

Stonewell has a peaceful outlook over the hills, yet is an easy 10 min walk to Stow on the Wold - excellent for those trips to the pub or a nose around the shops. The farm cat kept us entertained when we sat around the log fire in the evenings. The cottage is a good size with a spacious lounge and a very well-equipped kitchen/dining. The washer/dryer is a bonus for those travelling. We'd happily stay here again.", Rachel, January 2020
