Description
Summary
The Old Chapel is a former small chapel, located close to the heart of the quintessential Cotswolds village of Northleach. This peaceful village benefits from a number of shops and restaurants, and is perfectly located for exploring the surrounding countryside or visiting the many beautiful towns and villages of the Cotswolds.
The Grade II listed, detached stone chapel has been beautifully converted, to create a unique and stylish holiday cottage, whilst retaining character features, including stone arches, stained glass windows and vaulted ceilings. The character of The Old Chapel is complemented by its modern facilities, including wireless internet access, a flatscreen TV and a modern kitchen.
The property sleeps a maximum of 4+1 people (with the +1 on a chair bed), in two bedrooms, with one bathroom and a downstairs cloakroom. There is an enclosed garden and off-street parking is available. The Old Chapel is an ideal retreat for friends, couples or a family, looking for a peaceful getaway.
Description
The grand front door of The Old Chapel opens into a good sized hallway. The ground floor rooms are:
- Living/dining room: A beautiful room, with stone arches, stained glass windows and wooden floors. There is comfy lounge seating for five, with a TV and DVD player, and there is a circular dining table, also with seating for five, set in the semi-circular "apse" of the chapel;
- Kitchen: Accessed directly from the living/dining room, the modern kitchen contains a four ring electric hob, electric oven, fridge freezer, microwave, toaster and kettle;
- Downstairs cloakroom: Contains a toilet and a wash basin, as well as a washing machine and a tumble dryer.
A spiral staircase leads up from the hallway to the landing, off which are the following character filled rooms:
- Master bedroom: Contains a king size bed;
- Mezzanine bedroom: Contains a double bed and a chair bed, which can be made up into a small bed suitable for children, if required. This is a galleried room, which overlooks the living/dining room, enclosed only by a wooden rail;
- Family bathroom: Contains a bath, walk-in shower, toilet and wash basin.
The front door leads out into the gardens of The Old Chapel. There is a small lawned area to the front of the property, as well as a narrow, gravelled parking area to the front and side, with space for three cars. A gate at the side of the property leads through to the enclosed rear terrace, which contains a table and chairs, and a charcoal barbecue during the warmer months of the year.

All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.

The maximum occupancy of the property is five guests, at any point during your stay. Unauthorised over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges. A small quantity of initial consumables is provided for your convenience (eg. tea, coffee, sugar, washing up liquid, soap, washing powder, toilet rolls, etc), however, you should not expect the quantity of these provisions to be sufficient for the duration of your stay.
Accessibility, health and safety
This is an old, Grade II listed property and has many character features, including a narrow and steep spiral staircase and low beams, which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility, or carrying babies, both in terms of their general movement and their ability to quickly exit the house in the event of an emergency.
Bedroom 2 is an open gallery room, which overlooks the living room of the property, with only a wooden rail enclosing it. We do not recommend that this bedroom is used by young children.
The rear patio garden is raised by approximately 50cm and has no railings enclosing it.
The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis and, therefore, those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk.
Smoking
No smoking or vaping is permitted throughout the property.
Photographs
In order to provide you with as much detail of our properties as possible, we sometimes use wide angle photography, which can make certain rooms, or spaces, appear larger than they actually are. Wherever possible, we try to include a floorplan, with detailed dimensions of rooms and areas. If you have any queries regarding the size of any rooms or spaces, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Reviews
The Old Chapel was launched as a Holiday Let with Character Cottages in November 2013 and is in the process of building up customer feedback. With its outstanding presentation and ideal location, we have little doubt that this property will be a favourite with guests.
Other Customer Feedback:
-"We had a lovely time at the Old Chapel. The place is very tidy. We were a family of 4 and we all really enjoyed the facilities, bedrooms are nicely laid out and the kitchen had everything we needed! The location is also ideal - short drive from Bourton-on-the-Water, Bibury, Upper and lower Slaughter). Overall an excellent place to stay in Cotswold!", Eswar, March 2020
-"Our stay was just PERFECT !! :-)", Cedric, August 2019

-"Amazing home! Everything was great! Thanks.", Elena, December 2017
-"We had a great stay in this cosy chapel. Moreover it it so well situated, not far from Oxford, Bath and all the pretty villages of the Cotswolds. We recommend it warmly." Chantal, April 2017
-“Nice break, lovely accommodation, ideally located for the Cheltenham Racing Festival, would recommend to anyone.”, Steven, March 2017
-"We came over from the US specifically to visit the Cotswolds. The old chapel in Northleach was the perfect location. We visited many surrounding towns and villages of Stratford-Upon-Avon, Chipping Campden, Gloucester, etc. Gifford's Circus is a must-see. Sudeley Castle was also a great place to see (Gifford's Circus performed on the grounds of the castle). I now want to move to Northleach. Everyone was so warm and friendly. Due to the spiral staircase I would not recommend this place for young children (5 and younger) or the elderly (unless they want to sleep downstairs on the couch). More seating would be nice...just one additional comfy chair" - Tampa Florida, May 2014
