Description
Summary
Willow Tree Cottage is a beautiful detached property, which backs onto open fields in the heart of the Cotswolds village of Chedworth. With a popular local pub and farm shop, this unspoilt village is well placed for walking in the beautiful surrounding Coln Valley, and is close to Chedworth Villa, once one of the grandest Roman villas in the country. Northleach and Cirencester are close by, offering a range of shops and dining options, and the many picturesque towns and villages of the Cotswolds are all within easy reach.
Built from the highest quality Cotswold stone, Willow Tree Cottage has recently been refurbished to create well-proportioned living areas, in an elegant and contemporary style. The cottage has a wealth of character features, including wooden beams, window seats, exposed Cotswold stone, and a beautiful inglenook fireplace with a wood burning stove. This traditional character is complemented by a modern kitchen, wireless internet access and two SMART TVs.
Willow Tree Cottage sleeps 4 +2 people, in three bedrooms, with two ensuite bathrooms adjoining the two main bedrooms (the +2 option is a twin room accessed via bedroom 1’s bathroom). The ground floor is well laid out and spacious, and there is a large garden surrounding the cottage, with a variety of planting, lawns, and a paved area perfect for al fresco dining. The gravel driveway has space for four cars. Willow Tree Cottage is perfect for a family with younger children, or two couples seeking an idyllic rural retreat in the heart of the Cotswold countryside.
Description
Willow Tree Cottage is a detached property located on a quiet road in the heart of Chedworth. The grounds of the cottage are entered through a lovely beech archway, which opens onto a large gravel driveway.
The front door leads into a hallway, and the following rooms are on the ground floor:
- Reading room: A bright and airy dual aspect room, with two wing back armchairs and views out to the garden;
- Kitchen/breakfast room: The well-equipped kitchen has an electric cooker, five-ring induction hob, fridge, freezer with ice dispenser, dishwasher, microwave, kettle and toaster. There is also a sociable seating area with an ornamental fire place and a wall mounted SMART TV, which contains a dining table and seating for four;
- Living/dining room: A spacious room with an impressive exposed Cotswold stone wall, oak beams, and a large inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove. There are two sofas and a wall-mounted SMART TV, plus a large dining table with seating for eight. A door in the corner of the living room reveals a secret staircase behind the fire, which leads directly into bedroom 2;
- Utility room: A useful space with a washing machine, tumble dryer and wash basin;
- Cloakroom: Contains a toilet and wash basin.
Stairs lead up from the ground floor to the first-floor landing which has a small desk with work lamp. The following rooms are on the first floor:
- Bedroom 1: A characterful dual aspect eaves room, which overlooks the front and back gardens, and contains a king size bed, vanity table, arm chair and built in wardrobes. This room has a large ensuite bathroom, which contains a bath with handheld shower attachment, a large walk-in rain shower with additional shower attachment, toilet and wash basin;
- Bedroom 2: Another lovely eaves room overlooking the front garden, which contains a king size bed, a large chest of drawers and a wall-mounted TV. The room is accessible from the first floor landing, and it also has direct access to a steep spiral stone stair case, with a rope barrier, which leads down into the living room. There is an ensuite bathroom, which contains a walk-in shower, toilet and wash basin;
- Bedroom 3: This is a very unusual secret room, which is accessed via what appears to be a cupboard in bedroom 1’s ensuite bathroom, which opens up to reveal a small doorway into an eaves room containing two single beds. Due to the low doorway, restricted ceiling height and access via bedroom 1’s bathroom, this bedroom is only suitable for children up to the age of 14.
Willow Tree Cottage’s beautiful garden surrounds the property, and contains a small pond and a variety of trees and plants. The garden rises up behind the cottage, and includes a lovely lawned area looking out over a meadow towards the local church. There is an outdoor table and chairs in the garden, as well as a charcoal barbecue during the summer months. The gravel driveway in front of the cottage has parking space for four cars.

Booking and payment
Character Cottages is a marketing agency and we do not own any of the cottages listed on our website. We manage a proportion of cottages within our portfolio and the remaining properties are managed by a third party property manager or the property owner – your pre-arrival email will contain confirmation and contact details for your property manager. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.
For bookings commencing more than 10 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 10 weeks prior to arrival.
All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.
Security deposits
A security deposit of £200 is payable, which is returned after the letting period, subject to an inspection of the property. For the avoidance of doubt, guests are requested to leave the property in a reasonable condition, consistent with the property's appearance upon arrival. In the event that the owners, or their appointed housekeepers, have to spend additional time tidying up after your departure, then the cost of this extra time may be deducted from your security deposit. The security deposit is payable prior to arrival at the property, via a bank transfer or a valid debit or credit card.
Occupancy
The maximum occupancy of the property, including its grounds, is 4+2 guests, at any point during your stay. Unauthorised over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges. Please consult us prior to booking if you wish to discuss the possibility of having more than six guests at the property.
Infants who sleep in a cot do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions, the occupancy figure may only be exceeded by up to one additional infant.
Pets
Regrettably, pets are not accepted.

Accessibility, health and safety
This is an old property and has many character features, including steep winding stairs and low beams. These features could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility, or carrying babies, both in terms of their general movement and their ability to quickly exit the house in the event of an emergency.
There are two entrances to bedroom 2, one of which has a steep stone staircase leading directly from the room, protected only by a rope guard. Bedroom 3 is accessed via a low door frame, which itself is accessed via bedroom 1’s ensuite bathroom. The restricted ceiling height in bedroom 3 means it is only suitable for children under the age of 14. There is a skylight in this room, which can be opened from the inside.
The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis, therefore those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk.
The garden contains a small pond and has terraced areas, with some steep steps between the different levels.
Smoking
No smoking or vaping is permitted throughout the property.

Unfortunately, Hen, Stag and other same sex groups are not allowed at Willow Tree Cottage. Please note that same sex family groups are welcome.
Photographs
In order to provide you with as much detail of our properties as possible, we sometimes use wide angle photography, which can make certain rooms, or spaces, appear larger than they actually are. Wherever possible, we try to include a floorplan, with detailed dimensions of rooms and areas.
