7 Pubs We Love in Bourton on the Water

Visit Bourton on the Water in the Cotswolds in spring, summer, autumn or winter and you will be delighted with the choice in pubs and gastropubs; all year round, our pubs serve up the best regional food and drink. And here are 7 of our favourite places to grab a bite or enjoy an ice cold pint to finish a long day of hiking.

1| Duke of Wellington

This wonderful pub has a great setting overlooking River Windrush. If you’re looking for somewhere to grab lunch or early dinner with a great al fresco area, we would most certainly recommend the Duke of Wellington on Sherbourne Street. The food is cooked fresh and they have a top selection of real ales.

2| The Mousetrap Inn

The Mousetrap Inn Pub & Restaurant is a beautiful little establishment in Lansdowne, and it has a shining reputation for the best food in the area. The lunchtime menu offers some fabulous rustic country-inspired options such as whole-tail scampi or traditional fish and chips, whilst the evening menu ventures into fine English dishes such as slow braised duck leg or roast rump of lamb.

3| Kingsbridge Pub

For a great beer garden and a friendly-family atmosphere, head to Kingsbridge Pub on the Riverside. Located right on the village green, it’s a convenient place to grab a quick drink or bite to eat. Sign up to their newsletter on their website and you might even be able to snap up a free drink or two.

4| Old Manse Hotel

The Old Manse Hotel is a traditional English Inn; food and drink are great here but its biggest pull is perhaps the building itself. Expect wall vine plants decorating the exterior, a beautiful outdoor garden space, an open fireplace and old England interiors.

5| Old New Inn Cafe & Bar

Another traditional bar with a great beer garden; the Old New Inn has two sides to its establishment, a café serving up delicious snacks all day long and a bar which rustles up Old Hooky Beer and Addlestones Premium Cloud Cider on tap. Find the Old New Inn on Rissington Road, close to the Birdland Park and Gardens.

6| Wheatsheaf Inn

If the pubs of Bourton on the Water aren’t enough to satisfy your food and drink cravings, drive just 9 minutes south to Northleach for a visit to the lovely Wheatsheaf Inn. Run by Julian Dunkerton, this is definitely one of the best pubs in the Cotswolds. Its popularity means that reservations need to be taken, especially during busy peak periods or weekend. So make sure you book ahead!

7| Hare and Hounds

A bit further south from Wheatsheaf Inn is the little village of Foss Cross where you will find the fantastic Hare and Hounds. It serves up award-winning food so it’s definitely worth the taxi journey or walk. Lunch is served from 11am to 2:30pm and dinner is served from 6pm to 9:30pm; the Cotswold lamb and the North Sea Cod are to die for.
