Here at Character Cottages, we love everything about the Cotswolds. And it seems that we’re not the only ones; in recent years, the celeb factor has created a huge demand for hotels, luxury B&Bs and cottages, and there are many celebrities who have even chosen to make a home here. Here are 6 celebrities who loved holidaying here so much, they decided to buy a house amongst the rolling scenery of the Cotswold countryside.
1| Kate Moss
If there ever was a number one fan of the Cotswolds in the celeb world, it would have to be supermodel Kate Moss. Not only does Kate live in a 10 bedroom house in Little Faringdon, which is less than 30 minutes away from one of our luxury cottages, but she also got married in the Cotswolds and can often be spotted dining in her favourite pub, The Swan in Lechdale. Some of her dining pals have included Rita Ora and Mary Charteris.
2| Damien Hirst
Artist Damien Hirst (also a pal of Kate’s) isn’t one for doing things by halves. He bought a £3 million Victorian/Gothic manor back in 2004, which is a Grade I listed building with a total of 300 rooms! Built back in 1820, this manor is one of the most dramatic buildings in the Cotswolds and Damien budgeted around £10-£12 million for the refurbishment.
3| Jeremy Clarkson
Petrol head Jeremy Clarkson is no stranger to countryside drives. He loved the Cotswolds backdrop so much that he moved his family to a stunning location in Chipping Norton, a market town in the West Oxfordshire Hills. Chipping Norton is home to some great pubs such as The Chequers and Blue Boar Inn.
4| Lily Allen
Singer Lily Allen may have been a wild child at the start of her career but today she’s a mum to two young kids and has settled down in the beautiful countryside of Overtown (near Painswick) in Gloucestershire. She lives there with her husband Sam Cooper, and her dad (Keith Allen) is also close-by in Slad. If you want to go celeb spotting, head to the Woolpack Inn where Lily and dad Keith can sometimes be seen.
5| Michael McIntyre
This well-known comedian is relatively new to the area and you might even bump into him at Compton Bassett’s White Horse Inn. He moved to the Wiltshire village back in 2013 and his £2.5 million mansion includes a swimming pool and tennis courts.
6| Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen
Interior designer and home design consultant Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen sold his Cotswold home last year but he hasn’t moved far. His £1.6 million manor in Siddington apparently failed to sell at first due to Laurence’s flamboyant taste in wallpaper (we wouldn’t expect any different!) but after a lick of magnolia and some neutral furnishings, the family managed to sell their property so they could start on a new property project in the same area.
