Janet “Cottage beautiful.”
Really great location and parking is a real bonus. Bottle of wine was a nice touch. A few little niggles. Cobwebs everywhere, blinds in kitchen thick of dust, nowhere to hang wet towels etc pegs but no washing line. A washer instead of dish washer especially for people with young children. Windows needed cleaning badly. Saying that would definitely go back had a fantastic week.

Julie “Arrived to see someone in back garden sunbathing, when they saw us they started gardening until 17.”
10 using a strimmer too. The armchair facing front window was uncomfortable. The mattresses in both bedrooms were sinking on one side so was uncomfortable for us. A nice touch was the bottle of wine left by the host, just a shame we don't drink wine. The cottage was equipped with everything you'd need for a few days away. Was clean and tidy.
- Julie, June 2022Marion “Stayed at this cottage last year and enjoyed it so much we came back this year.”
One of the best holiday rental properties we have stayed at
- Marion, May 2022Thank you so much for your lovely feedback and we're delighted you enjoyed your stay at North House. We would love to welcome you back again. Property Owner
Sharon “Lovely, cozy cottage in the heart of the village.”
The decor is very nice, beds were comfortable, small kitchen for 1 person but otherwise equipped out well. Bottle of wine was a nice touch. Off street parking was a bonus. Nice garden. Lots of seating outside. Enjoyed our stay here.
- Sharon, April 2022Thank you for your feedback. It is lovely to see you had a great stay at North House and were able to enjoy this beautiful part of the world. We hope to welcome you back soon. Property Owner
James “Excellent location , well appointed cottage with everything you could need and with private parking too.”
We have already booked for next May.
- James, Jul 2021Ann “Delightful cottage in fantastic location.”
Well equipped, with comfortable furnishings. Lovely garden at the back, although mixed weather prevented us from using it. Would happily stay again.
- Ann, May 2021Andrew “Fantastic cottage great location amazing garden a real little oasis.”
Whilst the cottage is small its perfectly well equipped and a stones throw from great Bars Restaurants and a wonderful Bakery.
- Andrew, Apr 2021Lolo “Had a wonderful time at North House!”
The place was lovely and decorated so nicely for Christmas. Suzanne and Adam were very kind and very responsive. We were right in the center of Bourton-On-The-Water and able to explore so much of the surrounding area! Would highly recommend.
- Lolo, Dec 2020Barnaby “Brilliant stay, lovely location barely two minutes away from bakeries, local shops and the picturesque town.”
Festive decorations were a cute touch! Good amount of space, well-heated and also a great sitting area to relax after walks in the Cotswolds!
- Barnaby, Dec 2020Jenny “This place is perfect.”
Warm and cosy and the cleanest place I've stayed in. The hosts are really friendly and responsive and have left so much information in the cottage you have a great idea of what to do locally. The check in was easy and efficient. The beds were very comfortable and everything had been thought about to make our stay so lovely. The town is beautiful and you can walk straight out of the house to everything within a few moments walk. The parking is a real bonus too. We'll be back and will be recommending it to our friends and family.
- Jenny, Dec 2020Rebecca “What a lovely house in the most amazing location in Bourton.”
We loved the open plan downstairs and cosy bedrooms. Sadly weather not good enough to use the garden but imagine in sun it is just lovely. Parking a big plus and everything we needed was in the house. Very enjoyable stay and house spotlessly clean. We will be back!
- Rebecca, Oct 2020Trevor “A great location, offering the Cotswolds experience.”
- Trevor, Aug 2020Alexander “My family and I had a wonderful experience at North Cottage.”
It's perfectly located near the centre of Bourton-on-the-Water and just as cosy as we were hoping it to be. Lovely layout, a nice garden in back for our 2 year old to run around in, and quick responses from Character Cottages. Next time we head to the Cotswolds we will definitely go to Character Cottages again.
- Alexander, Mar 2020Robyn “Cottage is a beautiful 2 bedroom cottage right in the heart of Bourton on the Water.”
Waking to birds in the morning was delightful . It is very close to the Bakery , tea rooms next door and tourist information office 10metres away. Parking at front of house a big bonus. Loved our stay here and would highly recommend
- Robyn, Mar 2020Victoria “North Cottage is perfectly located right in the middle of Bourton and is beautifully decorated throughout with comfortable bedrooms and a lovely modern but cosy open plan living and dining area.”
The bottle of wine on arrival was a lovely thoughtful touch. We would definitely stay again
- Victoria, Jan 2020Yvonne “Location is perfect!”
House is modern, clean, well decorated and has everything you need. The parking is great. The hosts are very helpful. Plus a travel cot, high chair and stair gate can be provided, great if you have a little one with you. We were sad to leave as such a lovely place to stay.
- Yvonne, Jan 2020Tom “Wonderful location just a few steps from the water in the middle of town.”
Perfect space for enjoying town or exploring nearby. Everything just as promised - would definitely stay again.
- Tom, Oct 2019Jessica “The cottage was spot less and in a perfect location, we loved our stay and would definitely recommend it.”
- Jessica, Oct 2019Abby “Book this lovely cottage if it's available!”
The instructions and self check-in was a snap, a bottle of wine and helpful tips were waiting on the table, milk in the fridge, coffee, tea and biscuits in the kitchen and a beautiful apple tree in the back yard (in September). You could not be any closer to the high street of Bourton-on-the-Water; a 30 second walk and you were feeding ducks on the river. Parking was right at your front door, too. The cottage was beautifully appointed with thoughtful and useful items throughout, and, more importantly, was sparkling clean. Everything was done in advance to make our 5 day stay idyllic! So glad we chose this as our base in the Cotswolds! Thanks to Michelle and everyone involved for our perfect lodging.
- Abby, Oct 2019Andrew “A lovely period cottage in the middle of the beautiful Bourton on the Water village.”
Short walking distance to everything in Bourton including restaurants, pubs, bakery and supermarket and nice walks. Lovely garden and good functional kitchen. Perfect for two couples or family. Highly recommended.
- Andrew, Sep 2019Janice “We have had a lovely week.”
It’s a beautiful Cottage to see the Cotswolds
- Janice, Aug 2019Natalie “I stayed here for four nights with my mum in August.”
We had never used Airbnb before or been to the Cotswolds. The location is perfect. We walked everywhere and there were plenty of shops and restaurants to explore. The cottage itself was very clean, organised and comfortable. We enjoyed a bbq one evening in our garden and also many moments just sitting outside in the sunshine. Considering it's location it is so quiet and is a great escape when the village does get busy. An amazing holiday, thank you!
- Natalie, Aug 2019Sheila “Fantastic cottage in a perfect location.”
Even though The village is busy during the day, it’s still ideal. Two stunning bakeries and lots of nice eating places. The fact that the village is flat makes for easy getting around. Good walks from the village though for those who want. We really enjoyed the easy walk to Lower Slaughter for lunch and onto Upper Slaughter . Highly recommend North Cottage
- Sheila, Aug 2019Andrea “We really loved how beautiful your house is.”

- Natalie, Aug 2019Tamryn “Such a lovely cottage to stay in while visiting Bourton-on-the-Water.”
Centrally located to the river and restaurants, making it so convenient to get around the town during your stay. The cottage offers parking which was great especially during the busier times. I would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone wanting that extra bit of special.

We could just get out and walk to the best places. The communication was great and the place was sparkling clean (better than some hotels).
- Richa, Jun 2019Phillip “North house is a beautifully appointed property in an excellent location.”
It is close to the village centre but without the associated noise that often goes with such a convenient location. Character Cottages and the Owners have been exemplary to deal with. We had a really relaxed stay in Bourton-on-the-Water and will definitely return to North House in the future.

About the location
BOURTON-ON-THE-WATER
Stow-on-the-Wold 4 miles; Moreton-in-Marsh 8 miles; Chipping Norton 13 miles; Cheltenham 15.5 miles.
Located in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the historic village of Bourton-on-the-Water dates back to Neolithic times with over 100 buildings being Grade II listed or higher. The picturesque high street nestles alongside the River Windrush over which several low stone bridges span, which is why Bourton-on-the-Water is known as the Venice in the Cotswolds. Tradition states that an annual football match is played in the summer, in the River Windrush with the banks lined with spectators, with the aim to score as many goals as possible and get as wet as possible! The village has an eclectic range of visitor attractions, including The Model Village, Cotswold Motor Museum, Birdland Park and Gardens as well as a Dragonfly Maze, monthly farmers’ market as well as many tea rooms, an artisan bakery, antiques and craft markets, traditional sweet shop, cycle hire and its very own perfumery. Nearby, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises traditional England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antiques shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Also take a visit to the medieval town of Burford for a great day out where you can enjoy a trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are both within easy reach and make a great day out. The spa town of Cheltenham is, architecturally, the most complete Regency town in England with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called The City of Dreaming Spires has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also all within easy reach.
Note: The stairgate is suitable for top of the stairs only.
