The property

Mill Stream Cottage is a fabulous property which sleeps 5+1 guests, in three bedrooms (with the +1 option being a single pull out bed in bedroom 3), with three ensuite bathrooms. Dating back to the 19th century and built from Cotswold stone, this delightful cottage has combined traditional features with contemporary décor and includes a cosy open fire, stone mullion windows and exposed stone. These character touches are complemented with modern facilities including wireless internet access, a Smart TV with Netflix subscription and a well-equipped kitchen. There is a secluded courtyard garden at the rear of the cottage and off-street parking is available for up to two small cars on the private driveway. Mill Stream Cottage is situated in the chocolate-box village of Lower Slaughter, widely regarded as one of England's most beautiful villages. Picturesque cottages line the banks of the River Eye which flows from Upper Slaughter through Lower Slaughter and on into Bourton-on-the-Water. Standing proudly by the river is the 19th century flour mill which features a giant working waterwheel and an imposing chimney, an eye-catching landmark which is popular amongst keen photographers as it contrasts against the village dwellings. No longer operational, the mill building has been converted into a museum with a popular tearoom, and the village also benefits from a well-regarded country inn and a fine dining restaurant. Lower Slaughter is surrounded by the stunning countryside of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Beauty, with many walks and cycle routes on its doorstep. The Wardens' Way passes through the village and offers a pleasant stroll to the nearby villages of Upper Slaughter and Bourton-on-the-Water. Bourton is home to a range of pubs, restaurants, tearooms, shops and tourist attractions, including Birdland and the Cotswold Motoring and Toy Museum. The many other lovely towns and villages of the North Cotswolds are within easy reach and further afield destinations such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Blenheim Palace and Oxford are accessible for day trips. Mill Stream Cottage is perfect for a family or a group of friends seeking an idyllic rural retreat surrounded by the glorious Cotswold countryside. The front door leads into an entrance hall with space for storing coats, shoes and umbrellas. The following rooms are on the ground floor: Living room: This warm and inviting dual aspect room is beautifully furnished and contains a stone fireplace with roaring open fire, a four-seater leather sofa and two Duresta armchairs, a Smart TV with Netflix subscription, writing desk with stool and a selection of playing cards and jigsaw puzzles; Kitchen/dining room: This bright and spacious open plan area is perfect for entertaining and contains an electric oven with four-ring gas hob, slimline dishwasher, rice cooker, kettle, toaster and cafetiere. There is also a dining table with seating for six; Utility room: Tucked away off the kitchen, this handy space contains a fridge/freezer, microwave, George Foreman grill, washing machine and tumble dryer; Master bedroom with ensuite bathroom: Accessed via a glass walkway from the kitchen/dining room, this stunning dual aspect bedroom has a pretty bay window, exposed stone walls and French doors which lead out into the courtyard. This room contains a king size bed, ornate chest of drawers, freestanding wardrobe and two comfy armchairs. The colourful ensuite bathroom contains a walk-in shower, toilet, wash basin and heated towel rail; Cloakroom: Contains a toilet and wash basin. Stairs lead up from the living room to the first floor landing, off which are the following rooms: Bedroom 2 with ensuite bathroom: This elegant dual aspect bedroom in the eaves has stone mullion windows and contains a king size bed, built-in wardrobe, chest of drawers and dressing table with mirror and bedroom chair. The tastefully decorated ensuite bathroom contains a bath with overhead shower and separate handheld shower attachment, toilet, wash basin and heated towel rail; Bedroom 3 with ensuite bathroom: This charming eaves bedroom contains a single bed, a single pull out bed, available upon request (please note there is very little floorspace available when the pull out bed is set up), two chests of drawers and hooks for hanging clothes and a love seat. The light and airy ensuite bathroom contains a walk-in shower, toilet and wash basin. Accessed via the kitchen/dining room and master bedroom, this attractive courtyard garden has an outdoor table with seating for four, a parasol and a charcoal barbecue, making it a lovely spot to enjoy al fresco dining in fair weather. There is off-street parking for up to two small cars on the driveway at the front of the cottage, and free on-street parking is available a short walk away.

About the location

Lower Slaughter

Lower Slaughter is a village in the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire, England, 4 miles south west of Stow-on-the-Wold.The village is built on both banks of the River Eye, a slow-moving stream crossed by two footbridges, which also flows through Upper Slaughter. At the west end of the village there is a 19th-century water mill with an undershot waterwheel and a chimney for additional steam power. There is a ford where the river widens in the village and several small stone footbridges join the two sides of the community. A mill is recorded in the Doomsday Book of 1086 on the site of The Old Mill. In the 14th Century it had begun to be known as Slaughter Mill and is open to the public to view today. Lower Slaughter is home to the pretty church of St Mary. The church and its impressive spire were re-built in 1867 but some arches between the nave and the south aisle date back to the thirteenth century while the church of St Peter's, in Upper Slaughter, is a historic Norman church with parts dating from the 12th century .

Note: There is a second single bed in bedroom 3 available on request, which, when erected, there is not much floor space.
