The property

Elm Bank is a lovely holiday home located in the centre of the pretty Cotswold village of Lower Swell, surrounded by stunning countryside. The village benefits from having a popular country inn and is just a mile away from the famous market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, with its wealth of history, beautiful honey-coloured Cotswold stone buildings, and wide range of independent shops, restaurants and cosy inns. Lower Swell is also perfectly placed for exploring the many market towns and villages of the North Cotswolds, as well as further afield places such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Blenheim Palace and Oxford. The property has been lovingly renovated by its owners to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with varied décor and original artwork throughout the house. The style dates back to the 1950s and the stone fireplace with its roaring open fire adds charm to the living room. The character of the property has been complemented by modern facilities including wireless internet access, a TV with on demand services only and a kitchen with handy appliances. The property sleeps 9+3 guests, in five bedrooms (with the +3 option being a double sofa bed in the morning room and a single day bed in bedroom 3), with five bathrooms, a large garden and off-street parking for three cars. Elm Bank is perfect for a family seeking a country retreat in a beautiful Cotswold village. Elm Bank is located in the pretty village of Lower Swell. The front door opens into an entrance hall, off which are the following rooms: Living room: This lovely dual aspect room is bright and airy and has a stone fireplace with a roaring open fire. There is plenty of comfortable seating including two sofas, two armchairs and two Ercol chairs which have been placed to enjoy views of the front garden; Morning room: A well presented room which contains a double sofa bed (available upon request), a writing desk and chair, plus a CD player and a small selection of CDs; Family/dining room: This wonderful, sociable space has a TV with on demand services only, two sofas, two wicker chairs and an electric stove fan heater. There is a large wooden dining table with seating for ten guests, and French doors which lead out into the garden; Kitchen/breakfast room: A bright and well-equipped space with views of the back garden and fields beyond. This room contains a double electric oven and four-ring electric hob, a dishwasher, microwave, kettle, two cafetières, a toaster, a fridge, a freezer, washing machine and a DAB radio. A large wooden table with seating for eight is provided and there is a tumble dryer in the adjacent rear lobby; Wet room: Contains a shower, toilet and wash basin. Stairs lead up from the hallway to the first floor landing, off which are the following rooms: Master bedroom: A beautiful dual aspect room which contains a king size bed, dressing table and a built-in wardrobe. The large ensuite bathroom contains a bath, a walk-in shower, toilet and wash basin; Bedroom 2: Overlooking the front garden and fields beyond, this bedroom contains a double bed, a freestanding wardrobe and a wicker chair. The ensuite bathroom includes a walk-in shower, toilet and wash basin; Bedroom 3: A spacious bedroom, ideal for a family, contains a double bed, as well as a single day bed which is available upon request. Handy built-in cupboards are available for storage; Bedroom 4: This pretty bedroom contains a double bed, two bedside tables with drawers for storage, plus wall hooks for hanging space. The bright ensuite bathroom contains a walk-in shower, toilet and wash basin; Bedroom 5: A small and cosy bedroom with a single bed, mirror and a wash basin. Stacking drawers have been provided for storage, as well as wall hooks for hanging space; Family bathroom: Contains a bath with a handheld shower attachment, toilet and wash basin. The large garden is mainly laid to lawn, with a patio area close to the kitchen which has a small bench and a charcoal barbecue, bordered by pretty flowers in the raised rockery. Outdoor tables and chairs are provided on the lawn to accommodate 12 guests and tucked away in the far corner of the garden are two wooden seats which are hidden from view by potted flowers, shrubs and trees. Off-street parking for two cars is available on the private gravel parking area, with a further allocated space on the entrance lane. Guests with larger vehicles may prefer to make use of the free on-street parking bays close to the property as the turning to the entrance lane is tight.

Lower Swell

Lower Swell is every inch the classic Cotswolds village. Surrounded by rolling countryside this is quintessential Cotswolds in many ways. A cracking local pub is literally around the corner (run by a local brewery) along with a host of beautiful buildings including a pretty church. As you'd expect there are many walks into the surrounding countryside. As the cottage is located on the way 'out' of Lower Swell it is also very close Stow on the Wold, which is about 1 mile away, a 10 min walk up a foot path.

Note: There are steps and uneven levels in the garden, so young children should be supervised. Note: Logs for the open fire are provided between October and April; guests can purchase further log supplies locally.
