“We were here to celebrate my husband’s birthday with our adult children and grandchild.”

The cottage was perfect, so warm, cosy and comfortable. The cottage was so well equipped it was like home from home, particularly the kitchen, it had everything. The garden was very pretty, it would be perfect for summer months. Tastefully decorated, with the decor making it feel like a home and not a holiday let. I would have no hesitation in recommending Copperbeech, and would certainly stay here again if in the area. The only small downside was the parking, as we were there the weekend and it ...

The only small downside was the parking, as we were there the weekend and it was very busy. Having said that we did manage to park in the street, but would be hesitant to go out for the day incase we couldn’t re park the cars. However, Stow on the Wold has everything you need with plenty of shops, pubs and cafes. A lovely weekend was had by all.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback which is much appreciated. We're delighted that you and your family enjoyed your celebration at Copperbeech. The Cotswolds is so popular but usually spaces can be found in Stow - hopefully this didn't impact your stay. We look forward to welcoming you again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

The property

Copperbeech is a beautiful property which sleeps six guests, in three elegant bedrooms, with two bathrooms.

Dating back to the early 1800s, this striking townhouse with its rendered façade and contemporary interiors is complemented by character features such as the wood burning stove in the living room and original wood flooring in the eaves.

Laid out over three floors, this well-appointed home has a number of modern facilities including wireless internet access, a Smart TV and a well-equipped kitchen with marble quartz worktops.

There is an attractive walled garden at the rear, and free on-street parking close to the property. Copperbeech enjoys a central location in the much loved market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, a thriving town which offers a range of shops, restaurants and tearooms, and even claims to be home to Britain's oldest pub.

Overlooked by the impressive St Edward’s Church, the picturesque market square is steeped in history and retains its old town stocks, medieval cross and narrow alleys, or “tures”, which wind their way from the surrounding streets into the square.

During the wool industry, these alleys were used as a way to channel and count the many sheep on their way to market and it was once recorded that 20,000 sheep were sold in a day. Stow is well-placed for exploring the glorious countryside of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with various cycle routes and walking trails on its doorstep.

Popular footpaths include those to the nearby village of Bourton-on-the-Water via The Slaughters, and others which take in idyllic Broadwell and The Oddingtons, all home to well-regarded country inns.

Further afield destinations such as Bath, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon are within easy reach for day trips.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.

About the location

STOW-ON-THE-WOLD

Bourton-on-the-Water 4 miles; Stratford upon Avon 15 miles.

The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of Stow, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close to the town. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' as the River Windrush runs through the centre, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are all within easy reach and make a great day out. Cheltenham (20 miles away) is, architecturally, the most complete regency town in England. A spa town with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, it is host to literature, jazz, classical music, science and food and drink festivals. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called 'The City of Dreaming Spires’ has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within easy reach, making Stow-on-the-Wold an ideal base.

Note: This property only accepts 1 infant.

Note: This property does not accept corporate, work related or commercial bookings of any kind. The property also does not accept stag/hen parties.

Note: The front door of the property opens onto the street and guests with young children should take particular care to ensure that the children are supervised when the door is opened.

Note: An initial basket of logs is provided for the woodburning stove between October and April; other log supplies can be purchased locally.

Note: This is an old property set over three floors and with steep staircases which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility.

Note: The Stow Horse Fair is held twice a year, on the Thursday closest to 12th May and the Thursday closest to 24th October, this is a traditional fair for people to meet up and trade which dates back to 1476 when its Charter was granted; Stow is very busy for a day or two before and after each fair, and a number of shops, pubs and restaurants are closed.

Note: Parking in the street outside is free and nearby Maugersbury Road car park is free of charge between 3.00pm and 8.00am.
