“We had a brilliant stay at Fairholme cottage.”

The cottage itself was very spacious, the interior & furniture were in great condition. The location of the cottage is brilliant. Northleach is beautiful & was my favourite village in the Cotswolds whilst we were there. The Wheatsheaf Inn opposite the cottage was amazing too. Have already recommended the cottage to my parents & once the next lockdown is over they’ll be booking to stay. Thoroughly recommend.

The property

Fairholme is a wonderful Grade II listed property which sleeps four guests, in two elegant bedrooms, with a spacious family bathroom. Dating back to the 17th century, this Cotswold stone property has retained lovely character features including exposed beams, an exposed Cotswold stone chimney breast and a large fireplace in the living room with a roaring real fire. These period features have been complemented by stylish furnishings and modern facilities, including wireless internet access, a Freeview TV and a well-equipped kitchen. There is a pretty garden to the rear of the property and free on-street parking is available close by. Fairholme is located in the picturesque town of Northleach, an unspoilt town which boasts a number of independent shops, restaurants and pubs, including The Wheatsheaf Inn which is just a stone’s throw from the property itself. The town prospered during the Cotswold wool trade and this funded the impressive 15th century church of St Peter and St Paul. Every Wednesday, locals and tourists alike come to the town for the open-air market which showcases local produce, and the annual Northleach Charter Fair and Music Festival in June is a wonderful event for all ages. On the outskirts of the town sits Stowell Park, a private estate whose stunning gardens are open to the public during the months of May and June each year, offering fine views over the Coln Valley and displaying gorgeous flowers. Northleach is surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with many cycle routes and walking trails on its doorstep to explore. It is also well placed for visiting the other lovely towns and villages of the Cotswolds, including Cirencester, Burford, Bourton-on-the-Water and Chedworth, home to the Roman Villa which is owned by the National Trust. Further afield destinations such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford and Bath are also within easy reach for day trips. Fairholme is the perfect base for a family or a group of friends who are seeking a relaxing getaway surrounded by the glorious Cotswold countryside. From the road, the cottage is accessed via a communal passageway hidden behind a white door marked ‘Fairholme’. Fairholme’s actual front door opens into a hallway, off which are the following rooms: Living/dining room: A step leads down from the hallway into this light and stylish room where charming character features are complemented by contemporary furnishings. This room contains a large Cotswold stone fireplace with real fire, a two-seater sofa and two armchairs, Freeview TV, glass dining table which comfortably seats four, two window seats and a small selection of books and games; Kitchen: The modern kitchen is ideal for home cooking and contains an electric oven with four-ring induction hob, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster and cafetière. Stairs lead up from the hallway to the first floor landing, off which are the following rooms: Master bedroom: With a high ceiling and elegant furnishings, this beautiful room contains a double bed, built-in wardrobe and small chest of drawers, a comfy chair and a wall mirror; Bedroom 2: Overlooking the street below, this well presented room has an exposed Cotswold stone chimney breast and contains a 4ft double bed, a small chest of drawers and hanging shelf for storage and an ornamental fireplace; Family bathroom: Contains a bath with overhead shower, toilet, wash basin and heated towel rail. The communal passageway leads out onto a garden path which gently climbs up alongside the neighbour’s garden before arriving at a wooden gate signposted Fairholme. The enclosed garden is mostly laid to lawn with a rockery at the far end and mature trees and shrubs at its borders. This tranquil area houses an outdoor table with seating for four, a parasol and a charcoal barbecue, making it a delightful space to relax in the warmer weather. There is a secure garden shed which has space to store up to two bicycles. Free on-street parking is available at the front of the property.

About the location

Northleach IS just off the Roman road, the Fosse Way (A429) 8 miles north-east of Cirencester and 10 miles south-west of Stow-on-the-Wold, and about 7 miles from Burford - making it an excellent place to travel from if you're looking to visit these popular and attractive places. Northleach was at one time an important market town, celebrated throughout Europe as a major centre for the Cotswold wool trade! The fifteenth-century church of St Peter and St Paul, paid for by the wealthy wool merchants, was built with stone dug from the quarry in the town itself and what is now the Market Square. More recently the village has been used in a number of recent films, including the Casual Vacancy of 2015.

Note: For the comfort of future guests, we ask that dogs remain downstairs, stay off the furniture and that no trace of a dog remains after your departure. Note: The property’s garden is enclosed, however dogs should be supervised outside at all times and please note that access to the garden is via the neighbour’s garden and therefore dogs must be kept on a lead until in Fairholme’s garden itself. Note: The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis and, therefore, those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk. Note: This is an old, Grade II listed property laid out over two floors with low beams, steps between rooms and stone steps up to the garden, all of which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility.
