The property

Jackdaw Cottage is a charming honey-coloured traditional cotswold stone cottage, the first of a row of three in a quiet lane close to the heart of the beautiful village of Blockley. The historic village of Blockley is very peaceful and picturesque, yet benefits from having two pubs, a restaurant, and a community owned village shop & cafe;. There is also a historic Norman church in the centre of the village and numerous beautiful country walks are accessible directly from the cottage. The cottage has recently been refurbished by its owners, to enhance its cosy feel. Traditional character features, such as wooden beams and a large stone fireplace with wood burning stove, are complemented by modern facilities, including wireless internet access, a Freeview TV and a well presented kitchen. The cottage sleeps a maximum of five people, in two bedrooms and on a pocket-sprung sofa bed in the snug, with one bathroom. There is an enclosed garden and off-street parking for one car, with free on street parking readily available. Jackdaw Cottage is an ideal retreat for friends, couples or a family, looking for a peaceful getaway. The front door of Jackdaw Cottage is accessed via the garden and opens into the kitchen/dining room, one of the three ground floor rooms: Living room: a lovely, cosy cottage living room, with a large stone fireplace and log burner. Contains comfy seating for five and a Freeview TV, with a DVD player; Kitchen/dining room: Recently refurbished, whilst maintaining the cottage character, the kitchen contains an electric oven, four ring gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment, kettle, toaster, washing machine and a bluetooth speaker. The pine dining table is in the centre of the room, with seating for five; Snug: Accessed via the living room, the snug is a small room, ideal for relaxing or reading in. Linen and towels can be provided for the pocket-sprung sofa bed for a supplement of £50, to enable the cottage to sleep up to five guests. Stairs lead up from the kitchen/dining room to the first floor landing which has a clothes rail for guest use, off which are the following rooms: Master Bedroom: Contains a Super king size bed or 2 x single beds (THIS WILL BE MADE AS A KING UNLESS YOU REQUEST A TWIN PRIOR TO YOUR ARRIVAL) Bedroom 2: Contains a king size bed; Family bathroom: Contains a large walk-in rain shower with a separate handheld shower attachment, toilet, wash basin and a heated towel rail. At the front of the property there is an attractive courtyard garden with peaceful views across the Blockley valley. The enclosed garden is mostly gravelled, bordered by pretty flowers, shrubs and trees. There is a picnic table with seating for five, perfect for al fresco dining as the evenings stay lighter for longer. Adjacent to the courtyard is an off-street parking space for one car.

About the location

Moreton-in-Marsh 3 miles; Bourton-on-the-Water 11 miles; Cheltenham 22 miles.

An ancient village once famous for its silk and corn mills, Blockley lies just 3 miles from Moreton-in-Marsh and features a unique collection of honey-coloured buildings with a pretty village green, two excellent pubs, serving hearty food and real ale, as well as a village store and café, serving dinner on a Friday night. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of the village, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way and the Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close by. Very close by, Moreton-in-Marsh boasts many elegant 18th century buildings and is home to traditional inns, tea rooms, restaurants and individual shops to suit all tastes. It also offers its own train station and lies on the intersection of the Paddington rail line from London. The town hosts the Moreton-In-Marsh Show, one of the UK's largest one-day agricultural shows, as well as the Moreton Beer Festival, an annual French Market, and a large outdoor market every Tuesday. The highest town in the Cotswolds, this ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly farmers' market. Close by is Bourton-on-the-Water, which lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is known as the Venice of the Cotswolds as the River Windrush runs through the centre. Also within reach is the spa town of Cheltenham, boasting an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, as well as being famous for its horseracing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within driving distance, making Blockley a great base for a Cotswolds holiday.

For the comfort of future guests, we ask that dogs remain downstairs, stay off the furniture and that no trace of a dog remains after your departure.

An initial basket of logs for the woodburning stove are provided between October and March; guests must purchase their own outside of these months.
