    “We had a fabulous week at Lavender cottage.”

    Stretton is in a great location and we made the most of it to explore the Cotswolds. The cottage is very comfortable and well appointed and the outside space is a private quiet sun trap- what a joy.

The property

Lavender Cottage is modern Cotswold stone property in the peaceful village of Stretton-on-Fosse, surrounded by beautiful countryside. Located on the border of Gloucestershire and Warwickshire, it was historically a working farming village and retains an unspoilt air today, with some fine examples of Cotswold stone and locally-made red brick houses. There is a lovely dog friendly pub that serves as a meeting place for locals and an annual village show takes place each September. Stretton-on-Fosse is an ideal base for exploring the beautiful countryside of the North Cotswolds, along with its many pretty villages and impressive market towns. It is just three miles from Shipston-on-Stour with its many art galleries, museums and eateries, and for an insight into British history, Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford can easily be visited for day trips. Lavender Cottage, with its lovely leaded windows and lavender hedge, is a fairly recent addition to the village yet blends in perfectly with the other charming properties. There is an elegant and contemporary feel to the property, with lovely character touches including wooden floors, a cosy wood burning stove and exposed wooden beams. Modern facilities include a Smart TV with a DVD player, wireless internet access and a range of appliances in the attractive country-style kitchen. Lavender Cottage sleeps four guests, in two bedrooms, with a smart family bathroom, a patio garden and a private driveway with space for one car. This property is the perfect retreat for small groups of friends or families looking for a relaxing break in the Cotswolds. Lavender Cottage is set on a no through road in the village, with an entrance porch accessed via the driveway at the side of the cottage. The following rooms are on the ground floor: Living room: This tastefully decorated room has lovely wooden floors, stone mullion windows and a Cotswold stone fireplace with a wood burning stove. There are two sofas and an armchair and a Smart TV with a DVD player; Dining room/kitchen: This sociable space has a double electric oven with a four-ring electric hob, a fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle, cafetiere and microwave. There is also a washing machine and a dishwasher. The wooden dining table has seating for four; Cloakroom: Contains a toilet and wash basin. Stairs lead up from the dining room/kitchen to the first floor landing, off which are the following rooms: Master bedroom: This bedroom has lovely views of the fields and surrounding countryside and contains a double bed, a walk-in wardrobe and a dressing table; Please note : Cot is on a request only, please advise us on booking Bedroom 2: A well-proportioned room with two single beds and a Tub chair. There is a freestanding wardrobe and a chest of drawers; Family bathroom: Contains a bath with overhead shower, toilet and wash basin. The enclosed patio garden is adjacent to the driveway and has an outdoor table and seating for four, together with a charcoal barbecue and a parasol. Bordered by flower beds and trellises, with solar lanterns dotted around, this is a lovely spot for the warm summer evenings. There is off-street parking on the gravel driveway for one medium sized car.




About the location


Stow-on-the-Wold 4.5 miles; Bourton-on-the-Water 8 miles; Stratford-upon-Avon 16 miles; Cheltenham 23 miles; Oxford 31 miles.

The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh lies on the Fosse Way Roman Road in the northern Cotswolds and boasts many elegant 18th century buildings, which are home to traditional inns, serving real ales and home-cooked food, tea rooms, restaurants and individual shops to suit all tastes. It also boasts it's own train station and lies on the intersection of the Paddington rail line from London. The town hosts the Moreton-In-Marsh Show, one of the UK's largest one-day agricultural shows, as well as the Moreton Beer Festival, an annual French Market, and a large outdoor market every Tuesday. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of the town, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close by. Less than five miles away is Stow-on-the-Wold, the highest town in the Cotswolds. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly farmers' market. Close by is Bourton-on-the-Water, which is known as the Venice of the Cotswolds as the River Windrush runs through the centre. It lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. Also within reach is the spa town of Cheltenham. This town boasts an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, and is famous for its horseracing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within driving distance. A convenient base for exploring the Cotswolds and the wider area.
