Very chilled and quiet and loved the underfloor heating! Very cosy and had everything we needed. Visited nearby villages, walked and relaxed. No visitors book to sign- but thankyou for your hospitality. Dom and Pauline x

The property

A quaint Cotswold stone cottage settled into the idyllic village of Swalcliffe, The Little Cottage is a simply dreamy couple’s retreat to Oxfordshire.

A characterful living/dining room encourages you to take the weight off your feet beside the welcoming glow of the woodburning stove, an ideal spot to delve into a good book with a cup of tea.

At the dining area you can indulge in a romantic meal for two, prepared in the kitchen where large windows create a light and airy atmosphere, ideal for cooking with local produce using the ample amenities provided.

When the evening rolls around, retire to a beautiful king-size bedroom, punctuated by tall ceilings and wooden ceiling beams, and with views across the pretty village, towards the local church and thatched cottages.

Here, you will also find an en-suite where you can enjoy a soak amongst the bubbles in a stylish bath or a refreshing shower.

This charming little property is settled within easy distance to a thatched local pub, The Stags Head, so why not enjoy a hearty meal for two before heading out to explore the local area?

For more amenities, including another pub and convenience store, head over to the next village of Sibford Ferris, and here you will also find a 17th Century Manor House and a bar and grill.

Banbury is a bustling town only a short distance away and boasts scenic walks beside the River Cherwell, as well as a range of independent shops, pubs and eateries, and a local museum and gallery where you can learn more about the local history and heritage.

Visit the impressive Broughton Castle or take a stroll through Adderbury Lakes before trying out a game of golf at one of the many local clubs, including the oldest golf course in Oxfordshire, situated in the picturesque town of Chipping Norton.

Spend a day exploring the beautiful city of Oxford, or head over to the Cotswolds and enjoy hiking through the stunning scenery.

All of this and more with a stay at The Little Cottage.

About the location

SWALCLIFFE

Bloxham 4.3 miles; Banbury 6.1 miles; Bicester 19.5 miles.

Swalcliffe is a quaint village in the north of Oxfordshire, England, resting on the edge of the renowned Cotswolds. It is one of several small villages, including Broughton and Tadmarton, set on the B4035 road between Banbury and Shipston-on-Stour. The village has a parish church dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul, a village hall, a pub, The Stag’s Head, several cottages and houses, and a large area of rural woodland and fields. To the north of the village, the sites of an Iron Age hill fort, which is a Scheduled Ancient Monument; a Roman villa at Swalcliffe Lea, and the remains of the old Roman Road, which is now a bridleway, can all be found. The village is probably best known as being the home of Swalcliffe Tithes Barn, a 15th century half-cruck barn constructed in 1401 for New College, Oxford. It is a Grade I listed building and another Scheduled Ancient Monument. Further dining options can be found in Sibford Ferris at the The Wykham Arms, as well as at The Lampet Arms in neighbouring Upper Tadmarton. The historic town of Banbury is accessible by car, where visitors can spend time brushing up on culture at the Banbury Museum & Gallery, roaming the ground of Spiceball Country Park, or even exploring the gorgeous setting of Broughton Castle, located just a short distance south of the settlement.
