5 Shops We Love in Stow on the Wold

Stow-on-the-Wold is home to some of our favourite independent shops and boutiques in the Cotswold region. And if you love antiques, this is definitely the place to come for a shopping trip. There’s even a monthly flea market held in St. Edwards Hall selling vintage items and bric-a-brac that you won’t want to miss. Just don’t forget to pop into the famous Huffkins for a fantastic afternoon tea or the delightful King’s Arms for some hearty, homemade food after you’re all shopped out. Here are 5 of the shops that we just love!

1. The Original Gift Company

The Original Gift Company is located in the centre of the Market Square and welcomes more than 150,000 visitors every year! It’s certainly one of the town’s most popular shops and features unique gifts for every type of recipient. If you’re shopping for souvenirs, birthday gifts or looking for stocking fillers at Christmas time, we recommend popping in. You will find presents for cooks, gardeners, homemakers, car enthusiasts, foodies and more.

2. The Borzoi Bookshop

An independent bookseller for more than 30 years, The Borzoi Bookshop is every literary fan’s dream. They stock new books including all major new releases, as well as all the classics. And if you’re after specialist books or rare books from small publications that can’t be sourced in a high street shop, you’ll have better luck here. The staff are pretty well-read too so they’ll be on hand to help you find something or recommend a suitable holiday read.

3. Tudor House Antiques

Looking for antique furniture and pieces for the home? Head over to Sheep Street and visit Tudor House Antiques, which is open daily (10am – 5pm Mon to Sat, 11am – 4pm Sun). If you’re after something of high value or something in particular, the dealers are also available by appointment. But otherwise, this is just a fantastic place to shop around. There are more than twenty experienced dealers displaying their stock across seven different showrooms inside, so you really will be spoiled for choice when it comes to having a leisurely browse.

4. The Cotswold Cheese Company

For cheese lovers, The Cotswold Cheese Company on Digbeth Street is a must. Shop for a delightful range of hand selected local chesses, including artisan cheeses that you won’t find anywhere else. But don’t worry, because some of the European classics (such as Brie de Meaux or Morbier A.O.C) will be available too. So you can build the perfect hamper for your next Cotswold picnic.

5. Cotswold Sweet Company

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you simply cannot miss the Cotswold Sweet Company located in the square. Not only is this the perfect place to bring the little ones (they will love the huge sweet selection), but it’s also a nostalgic destination for grown-up sweet lovers too. Bring back old memories with the old fashioned and retro sweeties on offer, or taste some of the delicious handmade chocolates which also make wonderful gifts for loved ones.

When you’ve finished looking around the shops, Stow-on-the-Wold has plenty more to offer and we have lots of properties nearby, so you can set up base and explore this beautiful area of the Cotswolds.
