WHATS ON IN THE COTSWOLDS THIS DECEMBER

What’s on in the Cotswolds this December

December is party season here in the Cotswolds, and whether it’s a spot of carol singing, a Christmas shopping spree with a cup of mulled wine at the end of it or a winter woodland walk, the festivities have begun here at Character Cottages. Here’s a taste of what we’re looking forward to in our what’s on in the Cotswolds this Christmas.

A Winter Woodland Walk

There’s never a bad time of year to head out for a walk in the Cotswolds, but as autumn fades, the leaves fall from the trees to reveal a winter wonderland. And whilst the landscape looks a little different in winter, our favourite walks remain the same. Batsford Arboretum is particularly popular at this time of year, with the low sun making silhouettes of the surrounding trees and the frost crunching beneath your walking boots.
For further inspiration see our Top ten autumn walks in the Cotswolds, wrap up warm and enjoy being outdoors.

Christmas Shopping

Get into the festive spirit and start some early festive Christmas shopping at a traditional, picturesque Christmas market in the Cotswolds. And oh, how pretty our Christmas markets are. There’s excitement and a sense of magic in the air at the Gloucester Quays Victorian Market and late night shopping at Broadway. Alternatively, soak up the festive atmosphere at a traditional Christmas market in the Cotswolds.

Open-Air Ice-Skating

Gloucester Quays is also home to an open-air ice rink open from Thursday 14 November until Sunday 5 January 2020. You can just turn up and skate, however, booking is advised as the 45-minute skate slots do fill up quickly. For children aged 3-10 Beluga Whale skate aids are available, but there are a limited number and so definitely worthwhile booking these online in advance, along with your tickets. For parking, follow St Ann Way to the Quays Multi-Storey car park and try to get there nice and early (30-mins ideally) so you can collect your skates and be ready to hit the ice on time. A skate followed by rink-side refreshments - what better way to embrace the winter season?

Christmas Illuminations

If you’re looking for Christmas illuminations, the Enchanted Christmas at Westonbirt Arboretum is not to be missed. The wood is transformed into an enchanted wonderland of light and magic, with mysterious woodland characters to discover along the way. There’s no better way to get into the festive spirit for kids and adults alike. This is a particularly romantic Christmas treat too. November 29 to December 22, 2019.

Sudeley Castle Spectacle of Light is another sensational Christmas illuminations display. Taking a stroll around the brightly lit trail and seeing the castle, bathed in a chorus of colour is the stuff of dreams. November 30 to December 30, 2019.
